Leeds United's Noah Okafor protects the ball from Manchester United's Leny Yoro in the top-flight encounter at their home ground. Match Summary Dominic Calvert-Lewin watches a early header ricochet off the upright. Aaronson fires the home side ahead with a low effort in the second period. Matheus Cunha equalises just three minutes afterwards. The Yorkshire side extend their best Premier League unbeaten run since the turn of the century. The Red Devils' disappointing recent struggles persisted at Elland Road, but head coach Ruben Amorim had his Brazilian forward to thank for his side not suffering even more damage against their old rivals. Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed a first-period attempt against the post for the confident home team before Brenden Aaronson finished superbly with a low, 62nd-minute shot. At that stage, the United boss was in the firing line after his side had been held by bottom-of-the-table Wolves at home earlier in the week. However, against a team who had less time to recover, Cunha restored parity three minutes later when he ran on to a pass from substitute the Dutchman and slid a finish underneath rushing home goalkeeper Lucas Perri. It was only the South American's fourth goal since his high-profile summer move and came at a time when Amorim is without four key attacking players due to a mix of fitness issues and international duty. Not that Leeds to care about that given their own lack of preparation time. The Swiss attacker forced a full length save out of Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a spectacular overhead kick, and visiting heads were in hands when Benjamin Sesko, who is struggling to make an impression, turned his teammate's cut-back wide from six yards out. Cunha, who had a goal disallowed for offside much earlier in the match, also fired against a post late on. The draw extends the home side's unbeaten run to seven games, their longest such streak since 2001, and takes them a significant margin clear of the relegation zone. For the visitors though, it was yet another opportunity to move into fourth spot, albeit only for a matter of hours, squandered. Manchester United Breakdown: The Manager's Side Struggle Again With the AFCON reaching its latter stages, the United coach could be understood for hoping the participating nations make a pretty quick exit. Current injuries to skipper Bruno Fernandes and Three Lions star Mason Mount only exacerbated the impact the absence of other forwards is having on the team's squad. It's not that the absent players are the solution to all of United's problems. After all, they were part of the side that suffered poor results earlier in the campaign. But without them, the boss has few alternatives in attack. He clearly does not have full faith in youngster Shea Lacey or the much more experienced Zirkzee, even though the Dutch forward provided the assist for Cunha's equaliser almost instantly after his introduction as a substitute. That leaves the Brazilian, who has now scored three goals in five games, and others playing out of their natural positions, alongside Sesko. On this showing, the big-money frontman looks no better than previous underwhelming signings, lacking in confidence and assurance in front of goal. Sesko's failure to turn home the cross means it is now nine games without a goal for the young striker. Leeds Analysis: A Further Step Towards Safety After thrilling victories in their last few home games, the arrival of their fiercest rivals to Elland Road was a bit drab affair. True, there were instances of typical fervor, but the hostile edge was not as evident as in other encounters. Leeds' fans were more concerned about their side's inability to get worthwhile possession in advanced areas for any length of time. The striker's header that struck the post was an rare moment of quality in a congested first half. It still felt as though the hosts were struggling when a mistake opened the door for Aaronson. Ever so briefly, Leeds' delirious fans thought they were about to secure a rare win against Manchester United. However, there is a much bigger picture for Daniel Farke and the club to deal with. When they suffered a difficult run of form earlier in the campaign, many speculated about the manager's position. In contrast, he is now overseeing significant improvement. The job is not completed yet but gradually, Leeds are getting closer to securing their top-flight status. Looking Ahead The Yorkshire club have a Premier League trip to Newcastle in midweek, followed by the start of their FA Cup campaign next weekend. Manchester United face a Premier League trip to Turf Moor before also beginning their FA Cup journey with a Old Trafford tie.
